The Windsor Star, Windsor, Ontario, 20 Nov 1952, Thu Page 10 Freighter Reaches Port Towed to Safety After Being Aground ST. JOHNS, Nfld. (CP) A Norwegian freighter, with bunkers empty and crew weary from a 10-day battle with the storm-tossed Atlantic, was towed into port last night after skirting disaster at the end of her long haul. The 1,500-ton Bencas was pulled free from Pancake Rock where she grounded within sight of the calm waters of this landlocked eastern harbor. The St. John's tug Glenmont sped to the stricken freighter's side after the Bencas, without steerage, sheered from her course and piled onto the submerged crag.

The Gazette Montreal, Quebec, Quebec, Canada 20 Nov 1952, Thu Page 1 Freighter Saved St John's. Nfld, Nov. 19. A Norwegian freighter, with bunkers empty and crew weary from a 10-day battle with the storm-tossed Atlantic, was towed into port tonight after skirting disaster at the end of her long haul. The 1,500-ton Bencas was pulled free from Pancake Rock where she grounded within sight of the calm waters of this landlocked eastern harbor. The St. John's tug Glenmont sped to the stricken freighter's side after the Bencas, without steerage, sheared from her course and piled onto the submerged crag. The Glenmont teamed up with the Foundation Lillian which had towed the Bencas from 400 miles out in the Atlantic, to refloat her. It was not believed the vessel was damaged in the grounding but divers will make a check tomorrow.

Calgary Herald (Calgary, Alberta, Canada), 30 Sep 1977, Fri Page 3 LEFT TO BURN. The Portuguese trawler Vasco d'Orey is pulled by the tug Glenmont out of Newfoundland's St. John's Harbor Thursday after firemen were unable to quench a blaze that apparently started in the engine-room. Port authorities decided the burning vessel should be towed out to sea because of the danger posed to the waterfront. One of the 11 fishermen injured died in hospital early today bringing the death toll to two. Four of the injured remain in critical condition.
